The mastermind behind the annual Cosmic Slop Music Festival, since 2009 Deekah has focused on uniting the Detroit afropunk music scene and it shows. In a 2016 article previewing “12 acts not to miss at the Hamtramck Music Fest” the Detroit Metro Times called her “a force to be reckoned with” .
Deekah is a black woman entertainer with nearly 20 years spent recording, performing, writing music and teaching lessons. Her experience hosting, curating events and band leading continue to present countless opportunities for her to work with artists such as DOWNTOWN BROWN, DUANE, and Jessica Care Moore’s Black Women Rock Orchestra, in addition to being cast in Icelandic performance artist Ragnar Kjartansson's "Woman in E” in winter 2016 at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
